The Games in 2014 could be held in the astounding natural conditions of the surroundings of the town of Sochi. Only here is the picturesque sea coast bordered by snow covered slopes, creating ideal conditions for winter sports.

The Government of Russia adopted the conception of the Federal Special Programme Development of Sochi as a mountain resort in 2006-2014. The conception proposes that of 313.9 milliard rubles allocated to realisation of the programme, around a half (135 milliard) will be private investment.

In accordance with the plan Sochi 2014, construction of new Olympic facilities has been outlined to be situated less than one hour’s drive from each other in the mountain and coastal zones. Construction of new buildings will be carried out taking into account all the requirements of sportsmen and the Olympic family. In addition, with the universal support of the Russian government the transport, hotel and engineering infrastructure will be fundamentally modernised in the next seven years.

At the present time of the essential Olympic facilities in Sochi there already exist the main stadium where it is planned to carry out the opening and closing ceremonies, the skiing complex Alpika-Servis where the snowboarding competitions will take place, and the areas for biathlon and cross country skiing which will take place on the Psekhako range. Construction of the tourist sport complex Roza Khutor where it is planned to hold the competitions of all hill skiing disciplines has already been started. All types of skating will take place in the main stadium. Next year it is planned to start construction of the main hockey arena and the bobsleigh track.

Over the history of the Winter Olympic Games Russians have won 270 medals. Over the last 25 years our country has hosted international championships and competitions more than 100 times.
