Krasnodar Krai has high investment potential and by investment climate rating is in the top ten regions of Russia. By volume of investment the Kuban holds 6th place in Russia and the leading position among regions of the Southern Federal Okrug, and by scale of construction of living accommodation it is third in the Russian Federation.

In 2006 approximately 150 milliard rubles of investment in fixed capital was invested into the development of the economy of the Krai, most of which was financed from the resources of the businesses themselves, borrowed funds and the resources of the population.

The competitive advantage of the Krai, the stable political climate and the system of state support which has been in operation since 1999, have significantly raised interest in the region of foreign investors and business groups over recent years.

In 2006 $751.6 million of foreign investment entered the economy of the Krai (growth compared to 2005 of 1.6 times). The Krai is carrying out investment cooperation with 36 countries round the world. By volume of attracted capital in the region the most active are businesses of Slovenia, whose share in 2006 was 23.3% of foreign investment, Cyprus at 14.6%, Great Britain, Luxembourg and the USA at approximately 10%, Germany at 7.4%, Kazakhstan at 6.5%, France at 4.8%, and Norway and Switzerland at 4% each.

The main spheres for investment of foreign capital are: transport and communications (32.9%); processing production including food supplies (24.1%); wholesale and retail trade (20.2%); health care and social services (5.8%); and agriculture (4.5%).

In the area of attracting investment the Krai orientates on the priority directions defined in the Programme for Socio-economic Development of Krasnodar Krai for 2003-2008: agricultural industrial and resort complexes; development of port capacities; modernisation of industry; the fuel-energy complex and others.

The programmed and balanced economic policy of the Krai authorities is already bringing good economic results.

The arrival in the Kuban of major world investors was the result of the active work of the Governor and his team.

In Krasnodar Krai more than 900 businesses have been created with participation of investors from over 70 countries, including Philip Morris Kuban, Kaspiiskii Truboprovodnii Konsortsium-R, Nestle Kuban, Bonduelle Kuban, Cargill, CLAAS, Kubanskii Gips-Knauf, and TetraPak Kuban.
